Unlocking Low Voltage Flexibility: From Grid Insight to Consumer Impact

Unlocking Low Voltage Flexibility: From Grid Insight to Consumer Impact

Helena Gerard Main Stage

Project Alexander Senior Researcher Helena Gerard presents "Unlocking Low Voltage Flexibility".  One of the most pressing energy challenges of today is the question how to activate flexibility in the low voltage grid. This session explores practical tools for DSOs, shedding light on how to enable observability, coordination, and prequalification at the grid edge. At the same time, it dives into the human dimension—understanding consumer behaviour, preferences, and what drives their participation in flexibility markets. We conclude by examining the economic value of flexibility and identifying key actions and barriers to scaling low-voltage flexibility across Europe. Main outcomes of the ALEXANDER project and a European study on ‘Design criteria and specifications for Local Flexibility Markets’ will be presented , complemented by an interactive panel discussion with representatives from four Belgian DSOs: Fluvius, Sibelga, ORES and RESA.
