FlexCitizen - Amsterdam's residential energy hub for grid congestion

David Plomp & Avi GanesanFoyer

David Plomp & Avi Ganesan: Grid congestion at low voltage level is increasingly problematic in the Netherlands, blocking new development of housing and requiring painfully slow and expensive grid reinforcement. FlexCitizen is a pilot residential energy hub, where already over a hundred households participate to share data, get notifications of congested periods and can earn points for shifting consumption with flexibility from EV charging and home batteries. By collaborating with stakeholders such as DSO Alliander, this pilot explores the future of collective residential energy management.
