The surge of renewable power generation and electricity consumption across Europe is driving a growing system flexibility need to mitigate intermittency and grid congestion issues. Demand-side Response (DSR) is already a reality, and not a futuristic scenario, but at a very small scale. A rapid shift from 100s MW of DSR deployed capacity to 100s of GW of daily activation is required to trigger a better integration of renewables, improve security and decarbonate the power supply. In addition to the technical benefit, circa €300 billion in annual market-wide benefits, from DSR development, is expected for European consumers by 2030.
