Bart Swens

Product Owner Slim Laden

With a background in control engineering, Bart found his way into the Smart Charging field through his graduation project at Jedlix, where he developed a model to optimize charging and discharging schedules for V2G-enabled vehicles, using day-ahead electricity prices and carbon emissions. This sparked a deeper interest in EV charging. Bart then joined Equans E-Mobility as their first Product Owner for Smart Charging, where he worked closely with several DSOs and BRPs navigating the successes and challenges of various smart charging propositions. Now, driven by a desire to make a deep (positive) environmental impact, Bart is working on expanding congestion-based charging in Amsterdam, aiming to include the city’s 2,500 charge points for a more sustainable future.

Equans E-Mobility is continuously working on developing and integrating new innovations. In doing so, we help prepare the electricity grid in the Netherlands for the increasing influx of electric vehicles. We test new hardware and software solutions in the field of smart charging on a daily basis. This helps us achieve a better balance in the electricity grid. To apply the latest innovations in practice, we regularly conduct pilot projects in collaboration with various municipalities within our concession areas. This allows us to create solutions for proactively installing charging stations and preventing long-term parking at charging points, while also testing Vehicle-to-Grid applications, such as in the municipality of Utrecht.
